The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the 2025 Champion of Champions match will be staged on Sunday, August 31, 2025, officially ushering in the new 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The highly anticipated one-off fixture, held in line with Article 9 of the Premier League Regulations, will pit reigning league champions Gold Stars against MTN FA Cup winners Asante Kotoko in a battle for early-season bragging rights.
Gold Stars goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi has declared his side’s readiness for the challenge, insisting the champions have nothing to fear heading into the showdown.
“The moment we were able to lift the Ghana Premier League title means we are not scared of any team in the country, whether they are in form or not. We are ready to face Kotoko, and we must win that trophy as well,” Kobi told GFA media.
Gold Stars will be making their first-ever appearance in the Champion of Champions after securing a historic maiden Premier League crown last season. Their opponents, Kotoko, added to their rich trophy cabinet by clinching the FA Cup, earning another shot at silverware in this prestigious contest.
The Champion of Champions fixture serves as the traditional curtain-raiser to the Ghanaian football season, giving fans a taste of the intensity and competition that lies ahead.
In last year’s edition, FC Samartex 1996 edged Nsoatreman FC 1-0 at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa to lift the 2024 trophy.
