Ghana gaffer believes South Korea‘s style of play have greatly changed since the last time the two team met at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following Ghana’s narrow 1-0 loss in their international friendly match on Tuesday at Seoul World Stadium. Ghana defeated South Korea 3-2 at the World Cup group stage clash.
South Korea handed Ghana a narrow 1-0 defeat in the 2025 Kirin Cup today. The Black Stars worked hard throughout the match but could not find a goal to change the result.
Ghana had a big chance to take the lead when Benjamin Asare saved a penalty to keep the team in the game. His quick reaction gave hope to the players and fans.
Prince Adu Kwabena found the net later in the match, and Ghana celebrated what looked like a good goal. The joy did not last long because the referee ruled it offside, and the score remained unchanged.
South Korea took their chance and scored the only goal of the match. Ghana tried to push for an equalizer, but the defense of South Korea stayed strong until the final whistle.
“First of all, I think they have changed since we last played them – to play with a three-chain. I think this led them to be a little bit more stable. In general, except the Brazil game, I think they didn’t collect so many goals.” Addo said.
“And very, very compact. So, you can see a change since the last time we met. But surely also they now have some new young players coming in. Some players from the last time are still there. I think the main tactical element is that they play with three in the back.
“Always try to overload one side, which makes it sometimes difficult to press if you don’t have the right timing, to take the right positions. So, we had some good moments, especially in the first half. We caused them problems, when to press, when who should press. But it’s not so easy for the guys because they haven’t played together for long.” He added.
The result means Ghana lost both of their games in the Kirin Cup. The Black Stars were also defeated 2-0 by Japan earlier in the tournament, ending their campaign without a win.
