Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has sent a clear message to his squad following the team’s four-game winless streak in the Ghana Premier League: no player at the club is guaranteed a starting spot.
Speaking to Asante Kotoko TV, Zito acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the team’s recent results but emphasized that competition for places is key to improving performances.
“For disappointment, it is there,” he said. “But as I always say, no player at Kotoko is guaranteed to stay on the bench. When you join the club, we assess everyone, and those who understand the tactical plan best are the ones who start.”
The coach also highlighted the opportunities this period presents for players who have been fit and available to prove themselves. “This is a big opportunity for the players who were not injured to step up, perform well, and make an impact before the others return. That’s the approach we are taking,” Zito explained.
He further addressed the impact of injuries on the squad but stressed that the focus must remain on improving performances and securing results. “We don’t dwell on injuries. Yes, it’s painful and frustrating, but we focus on ourselves and on doing better to win. Fortunately, some of the injured players have started coming back, and that’s a positive for us.”
Asante Kotoko now turn their attention to Sunday’s clash with Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium, with kickoff set for 3:00 pm. The encounter presents a crucial opportunity for the Porcupine Warriors to end their winless run and send a strong message to both the league and their supporters that they remain title contenders.
