The Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairman of Asante Kotoko, Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, has openly criticised the team’s recent performances, saying they have not met the high standards of the club.
Kotoko returned to winning ways on Sunday with a victory over Dreams FC, after suffering back-to-back defeats against Basake Holy Stars and Hohoe United.
However, speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the club’s new supporters’ chairman on Saturday, December 13, Nana Apinkrah made it clear that he is not satisfied with how the team has been playing.
“Since we returned from the African competition, our performances have not been convincing,” he said.
He admitted that Kotoko has lost only two matches, but stressed that results alone are not enough.
“Even though we have lost just two games, the way we are playing does not meet the standard expected of Kotoko,” he added.
Nana Apinkrah revealed that the club’s management has already spoken to the coaches and players, warning them to improve quickly.
“During our technical meeting, we told the coaching staff and players that they must raise their performance immediately. If nothing changes, further action will be taken,” he said.
Asante Kotoko currently sits third on the Ghana Premier League table with 24 points after 14 matches.
The Porcupine Warriors will look to build on their recent win when they travel to face Eleven Wonders in Matchday 15.
