Former Ghana international Awudu Issaka has called on Asante Kotoko defender Samba O’Neil to consider acquiring Ghanaian nationality and make himself available for selection by the Black Stars.
The Congolese centre-back joined the Porcupine Warriors in 2024 and has since developed into one of the most reliable defenders in the Ghana Premier League. Over the past two seasons, O’Neil has been a model of consistency, earning recognition for his commanding presence, aerial strength, and leadership at the back.
In the current 2025/26 campaign, the defender has continued to deliver top-level performances, drawing admiration not only from Kotoko supporters but also from neutrals across the domestic league.
Speaking on Angel TV, Issaka praised O’Neil’s impact and urged him to pursue naturalisation, stressing that his qualities would significantly strengthen Ghana’s national team.
“Samba O’Neil is an outstanding defender. He would be a valuable addition to the Black Stars. I encourage him to fast-track the naturalisation process and join the national team,” Issaka stated.
So far this season, O’Neil has made 19 league appearances for Kotoko, scoring three goals, while playing a pivotal role in the club’s push for the Ghana Premier League title.
With his influence continuing to grow, calls for the defender’s inclusion at international level are becoming increasingly louder.
