Rennes defender Alidu Seidu reached an important landmark in his professional career on Saturday, making his 100th appearance in France’s top flight, Ligue 1.

The milestone is a testament to the Ghanaian international’s consistency, resilience, and steady rise within French football, where he has established himself as a reliable presence in defence.

Seidu’s Ligue 1 journey has been split between two clubs, with the majority of his appearances coming during his time at Clermont Foot. He featured 63 times for Clermont, where his performances earned him recognition as one of the league’s dependable defenders. His strong displays eventually secured him a move to Stade Rennes, where he has continued to develop and adapt at a higher level, adding 37 Ligue 1 appearances to reach the century mark.

The right-footed defender achieved this milestone during Rennes’ 3–1 defeat to Lens, coming on as a first-half substitute and going on to play over an hour of the match. Despite the disappointing result for Rennes, Seidu’s involvement in the game highlighted his growing importance within the squad and the trust placed in him by the coaching staff during crucial moments.

Seidu’s achievement is made even more significant by the challenges he has overcome, particularly his return from a lengthy anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Since coming back, he has worked hard to regain match fitness and sharpness, gradually re-establishing himself as a key option in Rennes’ defensive setup. His physical strength, tactical awareness, and composure on the ball have been evident, helping him slot back into the team seamlessly.

Having successfully transitioned from Clermont Foot to Rennes, Seidu’s continued performances underline his value as an experienced and dependable defender. Reaching 100 Ligue 1 appearances not only reflects his durability and quality but also signals that he remains an important asset for club and country as he enters the next phase of his career.
