Hearts of Oak were held to a 0-0 draw by Basake Holy Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, extending the Phobians’ winless run in the Ghana Premier League.
The home side had an opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Medeama, who suffered a shock defeat at home, but Hearts were unable to capitalize and remain third on the table, three points behind the top spot.
The match took a dramatic turn in the 65th minute when Hearts defender Kelvin Osei Asibey was sent off for preventing a clear goal-scoring opportunity, reducing the Phobians to ten men. Basake Holy Stars pressed forward in search of a winner, but goalkeeper Benjamin Asare made a series of key saves to preserve the clean sheet for Hearts.
The result extended Basake Holy Stars’ unbeaten streak to three matches following back-to-back wins in their previous games, moving them up to 11th place on the league table.
Looking ahead, Basake Holy Stars will host Young Apostles in their next league encounter, while Hearts of Oak travel to Kpando to face Heart of Lions in a crucial match as they aim to return to winning ways.
