Otto Addo, head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars, is targeting a much-improved performance when his side takes on Germany in an international friendly in Stuttgart, following a heavy defeat to Austria.
He acknowledged that the team’s 5-1 loss to Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium dealt a significant blow to Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to him, the technical team and players have since taken time to carefully review the game and identify lapses that led to the disappointing result.
Addo explained that the team had entered the Austria match with confidence but lost control after conceding two avoidable goals in the first half, which disrupted their structure and composure. He noted that extensive discussions and analysis have been carried out to correct those mistakes ahead of the clash with Germany.
Despite facing another tough European opponent, he expressed optimism that the Black Stars can bounce back and deliver a better performance.
The coach also addressed ongoing criticism surrounding his role, admitting that his position has consistently come under scrutiny regardless of results. He stated that calls for his resignation have persisted even during successful periods, but emphasized that his priority remains preparing the team to the best of his ability.
The friendlies against Austria and Germany form part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 World Cup, where the Black Stars are set to compete in Group L alongside Panama, Croatia, and England.
