Kevin Danso has broken his silence following his costly mistake in Tottenham Hotspur’s frustrating draw against Brighton & Hove Albion, while also condemning the racist abuse directed at him on social media.
Spurs looked on course for a crucial victory after taking a 2-1 lead late in the game, but the result slipped away dramatically in stoppage time. Danso lost possession inside his own box under pressure from Jan Paul van Hecke, who quickly set up Georginio Rutter to fire home the equaliser and deny Tottenham a vital win.
The late setback left players and fans visibly devastated at full-time, with Danso appearing distraught before being consoled by teammates.
In the aftermath, the 27-year-old defender revealed he had been subjected to racist abuse online but made it clear he would not allow the negativity to define him.
“Not the result we needed. We gave everything, we learn and move,” Danso wrote on Instagram. “I’ve also seen the comments. Racist abuse has no place in this game or anywhere. But it doesn’t define me, and it won’t distract me from what is important.”
He added that his focus remains on improving and helping the team in the remaining fixtures, calling for unity and resilience.
“Now it’s about staying focused, working harder, and coming back stronger. We keep pushing, we keep believing.”
Despite the error, Danso has been one of Tottenham’s more reliable performers this season and is expected to play a key role in the club’s fight for survival, especially with defensive options limited heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
The incident once again highlights the ongoing issue of online abuse in football, even as players continue to call for greater accountability and respect within the game.
