Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has opened up about his conflicting emotions following the relegation of Leicester City, admitting disappointment despite enjoying an impressive individual season.
The Black Stars attacker arrived in Ghana on Sunday ahead of his official unveiling as an ambassador for Rush Energy Drink. However, his return comes on the back of a difficult campaign that ended with Leicester’s drop to League One.
Issahaku played a key role for the Foxes, registering 16 goals in the Championship. Yet, his contributions were not enough to prevent the former Premier League champions from suffering relegation.
Reflecting on the outcome, the 22-year-old did not hide his frustration, even as he acknowledged his personal performance.
“I feel amazing,” he told reporters at the Accra International Airport. “Actually, it is not good because I am a team player. It is not feeling good with the position we are,” he added.
“I just say I feel happy with my performance but I should have done better.”
His comments underline a strong sense of responsibility, as he believes he could have contributed more to help the team avoid the drop.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround Issahaku’s future at the King Power Stadium. With the summer transfer window approaching, several clubs—including sides in the Premier League—are reportedly monitoring his situation.
Interest is also building from Turkey, where top-flight clubs Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe are said to be keen on securing the services of the former Sporting CP forward.
