Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was the only Ghana Premier League Player to be named in Ghana’s squad to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 33 year old was one of three goalkeepers picked for the squad by Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz. Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Annan were also included; Ati-Zigi, who plays for Swiss side St. Gallen competed for the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Ajax Amsterdam Juniour side goalkeeper Paul Reverson and Hearts of Oak’s Solomon Agbasi were excluded from the squad after making the 28 man initial group.Premier League merchandise
Beyond the goalkeepers, the only change in the squad was veteran defender Alexander Djiku omission and Derrick Luckassen’s inclusion in the wake of Djiku’s inability to recover from an injury he picked before camp. Like Djiku, AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu missed out on playing at his second World Cup due to injury.
Meanwhile, 30 year old Luckassen who was born in the Netherlands to a Ghanaian parent, recently switched nationality to play for Ghana and his call up comes after winning the Cypriot League title with Pafos.
