Former Ghana coach Otto Addo has started work as a member of FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the only African representative on the distinguished panel.
The Technical Study Group consists of 11 football experts responsible for examining tactical developments, coaching strategies, and team performances throughout the tournament. The group also contributes to the selection process for several major individual awards presented during the World Cup.
As part of his duties, Addo will help produce comprehensive technical reports that highlight emerging trends and innovations in the game. These reports serve as valuable resources for coaches, players, and football administrators worldwide.
The former Black Stars trainer joins a team of respected football personalities, including , , , , , , , and .
The panel will operate under the supervision of and . They will be supported by analysts, data scientists, engineers, and performance specialists working from FIFA’s tournament centres in Miami and Dallas, alongside an additional support team based in Manchester, England.
Addo’s appointment is another recognition of his football knowledge and analytical expertise. FIFA’s decision to include him in the group places him among some of the game’s most respected technical minds.
The appointment comes shortly after his spell as Ghana coach ended following disappointing friendly results against Austria and Germany in March. Nevertheless, Addo successfully guided the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will compete in Group L at the tournament, where the Black Stars are set to face , and during the group stage.
