Ghana Premier League champions Nations FC have officially confirmed the permanent transfer of defender Razak Simpson to Finnish top-flight side Vasa Palloseura (VPS), bringing an end to the player’s impressive spell with the Abrankese-based club.
The move marks a major milestone in Simpson’s career as he embarks on his first professional stint in European football after establishing himself as one of the Ghana Premier League’s most consistent defenders.
In announcing the transfer, Nations FC expressed gratitude for Simpson’s contribution to the club and wished him success in the next chapter of his career in Finland. The club acknowledged the defender’s commitment and professionalism during his time with the team, describing his move abroad as a proud moment for both the player and the club.
Simpson joined Nations FC in August 2023 from the West African Football Academy (WAFA) and quickly became a vital member of the squad. His commanding performances at the heart of defence played an important role in the club’s rise, earning him admiration from supporters and recognition across Ghanaian football.
Before arriving at Nations FC, the centre-back featured for WAFA, AshantiGold, and Liberty Professionals, where he steadily developed into one of the country’s most reliable defenders.
During his time with Nations FC, Simpson made 89 appearances in all competitions and scored nine goals, an impressive return for a central defender. Across his Ghana Premier League career, he accumulated 116 appearances while maintaining the same tally of nine goals, highlighting both his consistency and attacking threat from set pieces.
His outstanding club performances earned him a maiden call-up to the Black Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola in November 2024. Since making his international debut, Simpson has gone on to earn six caps for Ghana.
One of his standout moments in national colours came during the 2025 Unity Cup in London, where he scored in Ghana’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago, further underlining his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.
Known for his physical strength, composure on the ball, aerial dominance and versatility, Simpson is equally effective as a central defender and as a defensive midfielder. Those qualities are expected to strengthen the Vasa Palloseura squad as the Finnish club continues its campaign in the Veikkausliiga.
The transfer also represents another success story for the Ghana Premier League, with yet another locally developed talent earning an opportunity to showcase his abilities on the European stage. Nations FC will now look to replace one of their key defensive pillars, while Simpson begins a new chapter in Finland with the ambition of making an immediate impact and further enhancing his international career with the Black Stars.
