Ghana defender Alidu Seidu has delivered an emotional message following the Black Stars’ exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, promising to use the disappointment as motivation to return stronger.
The Stade Rennais full-back took to social media to reflect on Ghana’s campaign after the Black Stars were eliminated in the Round of 32 following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
Despite the heartbreak of the early exit, Seidu remained optimistic about the future, insisting that hard work and faith will help him overcome the setback.
“A lot of disappointments but this is far from the end,” the 25-year-old wrote on X.
“The only thing that can change my opinion is hard work and that is exactly what I’ll keep doing every single day. I truly believe there are great things ahead. I’ll keep trusting God’s plan.”
Seidu also expressed gratitude to supporters who stood behind him and the national team throughout the tournament.
“To everyone who stood by me and continue to support me, thank you,” he added.
The Rennes defender was part of Ghana’s squad at the World Cup, where the Black Stars reached the knockout stage before their campaign ended against Colombia after Jhon Arias scored the decisive goal in the 14th minute.
Ghana concluded the tournament with one victory, one draw and two defeats, scoring two goals in four matches during their return to the global showpiece.
Seidu has become an important member of the Black Stars since making his senior international debut in 2022. The versatile defender joined French Ligue 1 side Rennes from Clermont Foot in January 2024 and has continued to establish himself as one of Ghana’s most reliable defensive options.
Attention will now shift to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Seidu expected to play a key role as the Black Stars begin preparations for the continental campaign.
