Tariq Lamptey has explained that the vision and ambitions of Queens Park Rangers (QPR) were key factors behind his decision to join the English Championship side on a permanent deal.
The Ghana international defender completed the move as a free agent after leaving Italian Serie A club Fiorentina, where his progress was disrupted by injuries during a difficult 2025/26 season.
Lamptey’s time in Italy was heavily affected by fitness setbacks, limiting him to only 25 minutes of competitive football before his departure.
Despite the challenges, the former Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion full-back has secured a fresh opportunity with QPR, who are targeting a strong campaign in the Championship.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Lamptey said the club’s plans and ambitions convinced him to make the move.
“I’m excited for the opportunity ahead. When I spoke to the gaffer and Christian (Nourry), the project was an encouraging one. The team have ambitious goals for this season, so I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
Born in Hillingdon, England, Lamptey developed through Chelsea’s academy and made his Premier League debut for the club against Arsenal in 2019 before joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 2020.
During his time at Brighton, he became one of the league’s most exciting attacking full-backs, making more than 120 appearances before moving to Fiorentina a year ago.
On the international stage, Lamptey has represented Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and has earned 11 appearances for the Black Stars.
After a frustrating period affected by injuries, the 24-year-old defender will now be hoping to rediscover the form that made him one of the most highly rated young full-backs in English football during his time at Brighton.
