Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has praised new Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca, revealing that the squad has quickly adapted to the Italian’s demanding coaching style.
Maresca replaced Pep Guardiola this summer and has already impressed City players with his detailed approach to training as the Premier League champions continue preparations for the 2026/27 season.
Speaking after City’s arrival in Hong Kong for their pre-season tour of Asia, Semenyo highlighted Maresca’s focus on precision and compared his methods to those of Guardiola.
“Very good, very detailed. He’s got an eye for detail, and he wants everything to be right, which is quite similar to Pep. That’s good for us as players, so we’ve enjoyed it so far,” Semenyo said.
Manchester City will face Inter during their Asia tour before travelling to South Korea to play a K League All Stars side and Atlético Madrid as part of their preparations for the new campaign.
Semenyo, who joined City in January and has already made 27 appearances for the club, believes the challenging pre-season fixtures will help the team prepare for another demanding Premier League and UEFA Champions League campaign.
“There are a lot of tough teams in the Premier League and Champions League, and Inter and Atletico are two of those, so we know that playing those at this stage is a good test for us.”
The Ghana international also expressed his excitement at returning to action after a short break and praised the support City received from fans in Hong Kong.
“My body feels good. I like to think I’m well rested. The manager gave me a couple of weeks to relax and reset, so I’m happy to be back with the boys and looking forward to the new season.”
Semenyo will now aim to play a key role under Maresca as Manchester City begin a new era following Guardiola’s successful spell at the club.
