Former Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua is set to return to the club’s leadership structure after being considered for a position on the Board of Directors, Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively reveal.
The experienced football administrator is expected to become part of the new management framework assembled by the club’s owner, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the Porcupine Warriors embark on a fresh chapter aimed at restoring stability, professionalism and success.
Nana Apinkra previously served as Chairman of Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee for three years, where he was responsible for overseeing the club’s daily operations, administrative restructuring and strategic direction during his tenure. His leadership experience and long-standing association with the club have earned him recognition among supporters and stakeholders.
His return comes at a time when Otumfuo has introduced a new Board of Directors to guide the future direction of the club. The newly appointed board includes Mr. James Osei Brown, Mr. Kwasi Osei Ofori and Mr. Kofi Amoa-Abban, who have been tasked with improving governance, strengthening the club’s structures and developing a sustainable path for success.
The new board is expected to focus on key areas including financial stability, professional administration, player development and rebuilding Asante Kotoko’s competitive edge in Ghanaian football.
Nana Apinkra’s potential appointment adds further experience and institutional knowledge to the leadership team as the club prepares for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season under South African head coach Eric Tinkler.
