England-born Ghanaian defender Kwame Boateng has completed a move to Scottish League One side Airdrieonians FC, joining the club after leaving English non-league outfit Cleethorpes Town.
The 27-year-old versatile defender arrives with a wealth of experience in British football, having previously featured for Bradford City, Harrogate Town, Sheffield Wednesday, and Welsh champions The New Saints.
Speaking after completing the move, Boateng expressed his excitement about the new challenge.
“I’m buzzing to be here. It’s a great club and all the lads have been really welcoming. I’m looking forward to working with the gaffer – I can’t wait to get started!” he told the club’s official website.
Airdrieonians head coach John Rankin revealed that the defender impressed the coaching staff throughout pre-season and deserved his contract.
“I’m happy to get Kwame on board. Alan identified him during the close season and invited him in for us to have a look during pre-season. He stood out in the way he played and the commitment he showed, and he’s settled into the group quickly. He’s had to be patient over the last few days while we got the deal over the line, but we’re delighted to welcome him to the club,” Rankin said.
Comfortable at centre-back and full-back, Boateng will be hoping to use his experience to strengthen Airdrieonians’ defence as the club targets a successful 2026/27 Scottish League One campaign.
