New Medeama SC midfielder Usman Safianu has revealed that he faced a difficult decision between joining Hearts of Oak and the Ghana Premier League champions before eventually choosing the Tarkwa-based club.
The former Hohoe United captain completed a two-year deal with Medeama SC last week ahead of the 2026/27 season, strengthening Ibrahim Tanko’s squad as the club prepares for domestic and CAF Champions League football.
Safianu disclosed that Hearts of Oak were the first club to show interest before Medeama entered the race, making his final decision a challenging one.
“Choosing Medeama SC was difficult for me because Hearts of Oak came first before Medeama got in touch. I consulted my dad, who chose Hearts of Oak. But I consulted my aunty, and she chose Medeama. So we all combined ideas before finalising to come to Medeama,” Safianu said on the Medeama SC podcast.
The midfielder arrives in Tarkwa with a growing reputation as a technically gifted player, known for his vision, creativity, composure in possession and ability to create chances from midfield.
His leadership experience as Hohoe United captain and his attacking qualities are expected to add depth to Medeama’s midfield as the club looks to defend their Ghana Premier League title and make an impact in continental competition.
