Ghanaian-eligible forward Daniel Adu-Adjei continues to strengthen his case for a Black Stars call-up after scoring the decisive goal for HNK Rijeka in the second leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier against Derry City, helping the Croatian champions advance to the next round.
The 21-year-old striker has enjoyed a rapid rise since leaving AFC Bournemouth, where he developed through the club’s academy before gaining valuable senior experience on loan at Poole Town, Leyton Orient and Carlisle United. In the summer of 2025, he made a permanent switch to Croatian giants Rijeka, a move that has accelerated his development.
In his first full season with Rijeka, Adu-Adjei scored 11 goals in all competitions—including six in the Croatian league, four in Europe and one in the Croatian Cup—finishing as the club’s second-highest scorer. He also contributed three league assists, proving he can both score and create chances.
Across his senior career, he has continued to show steady progress. His professional journey includes spells with Poole Town, Leyton Orient, Carlisle United and now Rijeka, where he has become an important attacking option despite still being only 21 years old.
What makes Adu-Adjei particularly exciting is his profile as a modern centre-forward. He combines pace, intelligent movement, strong pressing, sharp finishing and the ability to stretch defences with runs behind the back line. His performances in European competition have also shown that he can produce on big occasions against quality opposition.
With Ghana continuing to refresh its attacking options, now is the ideal time for the Black Stars technical team to move decisively. Rather than waiting for him to become a household name in one of Europe’s top five leagues—or risk interest from another national team—Ghana should integrate him into the senior setup immediately.
Early integration would allow Adu-Adjei to understand the team’s philosophy, build chemistry with established players and adapt to the demands of international football without excessive pressure. It would also give the technical team the opportunity to develop him into a long-term option for major competitions.
At just 21 years old, Daniel Adu-Adjei has already shown he can score in domestic competition and on the European stage. His trajectory suggests there is even more to come, and Ghana would be wise to invest in that potential now rather than later.
If his current development continues, the striker has all the attributes to become one of the Black Stars’ leading forwards in the years ahead. His latest match-winning performance for Rijeka is another reminder that Ghana has a promising young striker ready to be given an opportunity on the international stage.
