Does Emmanuel Boateng Deserve Another Black Stars Opportunity? Ghanaian forward reminds everyone of his quality

Emmanuel Boateng has once again placed his name in the conversation after delivering a match-winning performance for Hapoel in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers, scoring a brace to help his side progress to the next round with a 4-2 aggregate victory.

The Ghanaian forward showed his quality on the European stage, producing the kind of decisive finishing and attacking instinct that has defined parts of his career. His latest contribution has raised an important question among Ghana football followers: Does Emmanuel Boateng still deserve to be considered for the Black Stars moving forward?

Boateng may not always dominate headlines, but his career résumé tells the story of a player who has competed at the highest levels of European football and delivered memorable moments against some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Eight years ago, during his time with Levante in La Liga, Boateng produced one of the most unforgettable performances by a Ghanaian player in Spanish football history. He scored a sensational hat-trick against FC Barcelona, becoming the only Ghanaian player to achieve that feat against the Catalan giants in La Liga.

That remarkable display came during a historic 5-4 victory over Barcelona in 2018, where Boateng stunned one of the strongest teams in world football by scoring three goals against a side featuring some of the game’s biggest stars.

In the same season, he also found the back of the net against Real Madrid, further underlining his ability to perform on the biggest occasions. Few Ghanaian attackers can boast of scoring against both Barcelona and Real Madrid in the same La Liga campaign.

Since then, Boateng’s career has taken him across different leagues, including spells in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Israel. He has continued to show qualities that make him a dangerous attacking option — pace, direct running, physical strength, intelligent movement and the ability to finish chances under pressure.

His recent brace in European competition is another reminder that the 28-year-old still possesses the ability to influence important matches. At a time when Ghana is searching for more consistent attacking options, players with European experience and a proven record of delivering in high-pressure situations cannot be ignored.

The Black Stars currently have talented forwards competing for places, but international football is also about having players who can handle big moments. Boateng’s history of scoring against elite opposition proves that he has the mentality required for difficult games.

The question is not whether Emmanuel Boateng has talent — his career has already answered that. The bigger question is whether his current form and fitness can earn him another opportunity with Ghana.

A return to the national team would not necessarily mean handing him a guaranteed starting role, but rather giving him the chance to compete, contribute his experience and provide another attacking option for the technical team.

With his ability to play across the attacking line, his European experience and his record of producing against top opponents, Boateng remains a player worth monitoring.

As Ghana prepares for future international assignments, the Black Stars may need to look beyond reputation and focus on players who are performing. If Emmanuel Boateng continues this level of form, his name deserves to remain part of the conversation.
