Former Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi is on the brink of completing a move to South African Premier Soccer League side Stellenbosch FC, with the transfer now in its final stages.
The 25-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Hearts of Oak expired at the end of the 2025/26 season. The South African club is finalising the remaining paperwork before making an official announcement.
Stellenbosch are understood to have identified Agbasi as a key addition to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new campaign as they prepare to compete domestically and in continental football.
Agbasi established himself as one of the Ghana Premier League’s most reliable goalkeepers during his time with Hearts of Oak. Renowned for his commanding presence, sharp reflexes, aerial dominance and excellent shot-stopping ability, he became an integral figure for the Phobians and one of the league’s standout custodians.
Agbasi’s stock rose even higher after earning a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Although Benjamin Asare started Ghana’s three group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia, Agbasi remained an important member of the Black Stars squad throughout the tournament, providing competition and experience in the goalkeeping department as Ghana progressed to the Round of 32 for the first time since 2010.
Being part of the World Cup squad significantly boosted his profile and demonstrated the confidence the national team technical bench had in his abilities.
A move to Stellenbosch would mark Agbasi’s first professional club experience outside Ghana and represents another significant step in his career.
The Cape Winelands-based club has earned a reputation as one of South Africa’s fastest-rising teams, consistently challenging near the top of the PSL while also competing in CAF inter-club competitions.
Should the transfer be completed, Solomon Agbasi will become the latest Ghanaian footballer to ply his trade in South Africa, with the move expected to strengthen his ambitions of remaining in the Black Stars setup ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and future international assignments.
