Medeama have been crowned Champions of Champions after defeating Ghana FA Cup holders Nations FC 2-0 at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.
The Ghana Premier League champions delivered a composed performance on Sunday to secure the prestigious trophy and gain valuable momentum ahead of the new season.
Medeama took control of the contest in the 28th minute after Nations FC were penalised for a handball inside the penalty area.
Fatawu Sulemana stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give the Tarkwa-based side a 1-0 lead.
Nations FC struggled to create a meaningful response as Medeama maintained their grip on the game and effectively restricted the FA Cup champions’ attacking opportunities.
Medeama eventually put the result beyond doubt in the second half when Emmanuel Annor found the back of the net with a well-taken finish to double their advantage.
The 2-0 victory hands Medeama an early piece of silverware and provides a major confidence boost as they prepare for a demanding campaign on both domestic and continental fronts.
Their attention now turns to the CAF Champions League, where Medeama will host Congolese giants TP Mazembe on September 6 in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie.
Nations FC will also begin their continental journey next month, with the FA Cup holders scheduled to travel to Mali to face Diarra FC in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie on September 5.
Medeama’s Champions of Champions triumph therefore serves as an important confidence-building victory ahead of their CAF assignment.
