Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has called for Godwin Attram and Desmond Ofei to be considered for the Black Stars’ interim coaching roles ahead of their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia.
Ghana are searching for a new head coach following the departure of Carlos Queiroz after consecutive defeats in their opening qualifying matches left the team under pressure in the race for a place at the tournament.
The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in Bouaké before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving them with no points from their opening two matches.
The Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have established a five-member committee to identify a permanent successor to Queiroz. However, the committee’s mandate has been extended, prompting the two institutions to confirm plans for an interim technical team to oversee the national team’s next two qualifying fixtures.
Against this background, Sannie Daara believes Attram and Ofei should be given the opportunity to lead the Black Stars while the search for a permanent coach continues.
“Godwin Attram and Desmond Ofei must be given the opportunity to take charge of the Somalia games and then take time to look for proper coaches who can build a team for the future,” he told Asempa FM.
Ofei previously worked as an assistant coach under Otto Addo and Queiroz before being assigned to lead Ghana’s Olympic team, the Black Meteors.
Attram, meanwhile, was appointed as Queiroz’s second assistant coach ahead of Ghana’s opening matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
Their previous involvement with Ghana’s national teams and the senior side’s technical setup could make them candidates for consideration as the GFA works to assemble an interim coaching team for the November fixtures.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia twice in November in Matchdays Three and Four of the qualifying campaign. The double-header will provide Ghana with an opportunity to respond to their disappointing start and revive their hopes of reaching the 2027 AFCON tournament.
Ghana are also expected to face Ivory Coast and The Gambia in their final group matches next year, making the appointment of a permanent head coach an important task for the football authorities.
For now, Sannie Daara believes Attram and Ofei deserve the opportunity to guide the team through the Somalia matches while the GFA continues its search for a coach capable of building a competitive side for the future.
