The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has appointed an interim technical team to lead the Black Stars for their November international fixture against Somalia.
The decision follows a recommendation from the Black Stars Coach Search Committee after an extensive review of several qualified coaching candidates. According to the GFA, the committee concluded that an interim technical setup would provide the continuity, experienced leadership and strategic direction needed as the national team undergoes a period of transition.
Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren will serve as interim head coach and will be assisted by former Black Stars forward Ibrahim Tanko and ex-Ghana international Godwin Attram. Former Ghana goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has been named the team’s goalkeepers’ coach.
The GFA said the interim team combines international experience, local knowledge and technical expertise, qualities it believes are essential to preparing the Black Stars for the upcoming international window.
The Association also disclosed that additional multidisciplinary technical and support staff will be appointed to strengthen the team’s preparations for the November assignments.
The interim arrangement is limited to the November fixtures, with the Coach Search Committee continuing its work to identify and recommend a permanent head coach for the senior national team.
The GFA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Coach Search Committee reaffirmed their commitment to providing the Black Stars and Black Queens with the technical and operational support needed to achieve their objectives during the international window.
