Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have reportedly intensified their pursuit of Ghanaian descent defender Josh Acheampong, with both European heavyweights making contact with the Chelsea youngster’s representatives ahead of the January transfer window.
According to German outlet Fussball News, the Spanish and German giants have opened preliminary discussions with the 20-year-old’s agent as they explore the possibility of signing one of Chelsea’s brightest defensive prospects.
Acheampong has emerged as one of the most sought-after young defenders in Europe following his rapid rise at Stamford Bridge, attracting interest from several top clubs. Alongside Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are also believed to be monitoring his situation.
Chelsea, however, are determined to keep hold of the versatile defender and are reportedly working to reinforce his long-term future at the club. The Blues are understood to be aware of the growing interest from Europe’s elite and remain keen to ensure the academy graduate remains part of their long-term plans.
The report claims Chelsea value Acheampong at around €50 million, a figure that is unlikely to discourage clubs such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, both of whom are actively looking to strengthen their defensive options with young, high-potential talent.
Acheampong remains under contract at Chelsea until June 2029, placing the London club in a strong negotiating position despite the mounting interest.
The defender has already featured 11 times in all competitions for Chelsea this season, earning praise for his composure, athleticism, versatility and maturity beyond his years. Capable of operating as a centre-back or right-back, he is regarded as one of the Premier League club’s most promising academy graduates.
On the international stage, Acheampong has represented England at youth level, but he remains eligible to play for Ghana through his family heritage. His development continues to be monitored with interest by the Ghana Football Association as the Black Stars seek to strengthen their squad with emerging dual-nationality talents.
With the January transfer window approaching, speculation surrounding Acheampong’s future is expected to intensify, although Chelsea are unlikely to entertain offers unless an exceptional proposal is submitted.
