Asante Kotoko stand-in coach Diogo Peral could face disciplinary sanctions from the Ghana Football Association following his dismissal for punching Medeama defender Eben Adade during Sunday’s Ghana Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The Portuguese trainer was involved in a heated touchline confrontation after Medeama left-back Eben Adade attempted to retrieve a ball that had gone out of play near Kotoko’s technical area.
The situation quickly escalated, with Adade pushing Peral to the ground during the altercation. The Kotoko coach subsequently got back to his feet and retaliated by throwing a punch at the defender’s face.
The referee immediately showed Peral a straight red card for his involvement in the incident, leaving the Porcupine Warriors to deal with the consequences of the touchline confrontation.
Despite the controversy, Asante Kotoko showed resilience to fight back and secure a 1-1 draw against the reigning Ghana Premier League champions from Tarkwa.
Peral could now face further disciplinary action from the GFA, as the incident is expected to be reviewed by the association’s disciplinary authorities.
Any additional punishment could see the Portuguese coach serve a suspension, depending on the findings and decision of the relevant disciplinary committee.
