Ghanaian midfielder Tyrone Owusu has been crowned the Dutch Eredivisie Player of the Month for October after an outstanding run of performances for SC Telstar.
The 27-year-old becomes the first Telstar player to receive the prestigious individual award following a remarkable month in which he scored five goals and played a key role in his team’s impressive displays.
Owusu enjoyed a sensational scoring streak, finding the back of the net in four consecutive league matches. His run included a brace in Telstar’s 2-2 draw with ADO Den Haag, the club where he developed as a youngster, before adding goals against Feyenoord, Go Ahead Eagles and FC Utrecht.
His achievement also saw him become only the second Telstar player in history to score in four successive Eredivisie matches. The first was former Netherlands international Co Stout, who achieved the feat nearly five decades ago in 1977.
Beyond his goalscoring exploits, Owusu was also influential in Telstar’s attacking play throughout October. He created 12 chances from open play, the highest figure among his teammates, while also contributing one assist.
The Dutch-born Ghanaian midfielder completed 102 passes in the final third, another team-leading statistic, highlighting his importance in helping Telstar progress the ball into dangerous areas.
Owusu was also heavily involved in attacking situations, recording 13 touches inside the opposition penalty area and competing in 38 duels, winning 17 of them during the month.
His exceptional performances have not only earned him personal recognition but have also strengthened his reputation as one of the standout midfielders in the Eredivisie this season.
The award marks a significant milestone in Owusu’s career and a historic moment for SC Telstar, who now celebrate having their first-ever Eredivisie Player of the Month winner.
