Young defender Aaron Essel has received his maiden call-up to the Black Stars, following his impressive performances at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year in Egypt.
Essel, who stood out with his solid defending and calm presence at the back for the Black Satellites, has caught the attention of head coach Otto Addo, earning a place in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the Unity Cup 2025 in London.
The tournament, which includes Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, will give Essel a valuable opportunity to experience senior international football and compete against top-level opposition. Ghana opens their campaign against Nigeria on Wednesday, May 28, at the GTech Community Stadium.
Essel’s call-up is seen as a step forward in the national team’s focus on developing young talent for the future.
