Ghana head coach Otto Addo has unveiled his squad for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup, with particular excitement surrounding the inclusion of four standout performers from the Ghana Premier League: Kamaradini Mamudu, Razak Simpson, Benjamin Asare, and Kwame Poku.

Their selection underscores the national team’s renewed confidence in home-based talent and signals the Ghana Premier League’s continued importance in nurturing future Black Stars.

Kamaradini Mamudu, the rampaging right-back from Medeama SC, has been nothing short of sensational this season. With 8 goals to his name from a defensive position, his blend of attacking flair and defensive awareness has made him the best in his role across the local league.

Joining him in the defensive unit is Razak Simpson, captain of Nations FC. A calm and composed centre-back, Simpson has led from the front in Nations FC’s impressive campaign and brings leadership, positional intelligence, and aerial dominance to the Black Stars setup.

Benjamin Asare, the experienced Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, also retains his spot after an excellent run of form. The 32-year-old was Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper in the recent World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, keeping clean sheets in both matches. His commanding presence and sharp reflexes make him a trusted option between the posts.

Up front, Kwame Poku of Asante Kotoko makes his return to the national team after a stunning resurgence in form. Since rejoining the Porcupine Warriors in January, the prolific forward has scored 9 goals in just 16 appearances, reigniting his reputation as one of the most dangerous attackers in the domestic league.

Ghana will open their Unity Cup campaign against Nigeria on May 28 in London, and the presence of these four locally-based players sends a strong message: the Ghana Premier League remains a fertile ground for national team stars.

Their performances could inspire more call-ups from the domestic scene, affirming that local excellence is still being rewarded at the highest level.
