Abdul Mumin nearing Rayo Vallecano exit following failed contract talks

Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin has rejected the latest contract renewal offer from Rayo Vallecano, increasing the likelihood of his departure on a free transfer this summer.

The 27-year-old centre-back is entering the final phase of his current deal, which expires on June 30, 2026.

Reports indicate that Rayo Vallecano recently presented the Ghana international with a reduced renewal offer, but negotiations failed to progress after Mumin turned down the proposal.

With his contract running down, the defender is now free to explore interest from other clubs ahead of a potential move.

Several teams are already monitoring the situation closely, including fellow La Liga sides CA Osasuna and Girona FC.

Clubs from the Premier League and France’s Ligue 1 are also reportedly interested in signing the experienced defender without paying a transfer fee.

Mumin’s situation comes after a difficult spell in his career following a serious ACL injury suffered in March 2025, which kept him sidelined for more than 400 days.

The Ghanaian made his long-awaited return to action in April 2026, coming off the bench against RCD Espanyol in an emotional comeback appearance.

Since joining Rayo Vallecano from Vitória de Guimarães in 2022, Mumin established himself as a key figure in the team with his aggressive defending, physical presence, and consistency at the back before the injury setback.

For Rayo Vallecano, losing the defender without receiving a transfer fee would represent a major setback after investing heavily in his development over recent seasons.

Mumin is now expected to consider offers carefully as he weighs the option of remaining in Spain or pursuing a fresh challenge abroad.

His next move is likely to depend on the sporting project presented, guaranteed playing opportunities, and the ideal environment to fully rebuild his career after his lengthy injury absence.
