ACF Fiorentina have officially reached an agreement with Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey to mutually terminate his contract, bringing a disappointing and injury-ridden spell in Italy to an early end.
The 25-year-old full-back joined Fiorentina from Brighton & Hove Albion FC last summer in a reported €6 million transfer and signed a three-year deal amid hopes he could revive his career in Serie A.
However, Lamptey’s time in Florence quickly turned into a frustrating chapter dominated by injury setbacks.
The former Chelsea FC academy graduate made only two brief appearances for Fiorentina, featuring as a substitute against Napoli before making his first and only start against Como on September 21, 2025.
Disaster struck during that match when Lamptey suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury after just 22 minutes on the pitch.
The Ghana international never played for the club again.
The ACL injury added to a long list of fitness problems that have disrupted Lamptey’s career in recent years. During his time at Brighton, the defender also endured lengthy periods on the sidelines with recurring injuries.
In total, Lamptey managed only 25 minutes of competitive football in Fiorentina colours before the club decided to end the partnership two games before the conclusion of the Serie A season.
The contract termination means Lamptey is now a free agent as he begins the search for a new club and another opportunity to rebuild his career.
The timing also comes as a major setback ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with his lack of match fitness making a place in Ghana’s Black Stars squad increasingly unlikely.
