Inaki Williams’ anticipated arrival at the Black Stars camp for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has faced a setback as the 29-year-old forward has contracted an illness.
The Athletic Bilbao player is part of Ghana’s final 27-man squad for the tournament in Ivory Coast.
Athletic Bilbao confirmed the illness and stated that Inaki will be assessed by the club’s medical team. They have also informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the situation.
Inaki Williams, who scored his first goal for Ghana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar, is determined to contribute significantly to the team.
The Black Stars are set to open their camp in Kumasi on January 2, gearing up for a friendly game against Namibia at the Baba Yara Stadium. The final squad will depart for Ivory Coast on January 10.
Ghana, placed in Group B, will face Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in the AFCON tournament hosted in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
