Ghana has been dealt a significant setback as they approach the final group game in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR).
Scheduled to face CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 7, Ghana needs either a draw or a victory to secure a place in the tournament.
However, leading up to this crucial match, the team will be without the services of two key players. Midfielder Majeed Ashiemru will be unavailable due to an injury setback. Ashiemru, a central midfielder, sustained an ankle injury during Anderlecht’s 0-2 loss to Royal Union Saint-Gilloise in the opening weekend of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
Reports indicate that Ashiemru, who has been absent from the team’s last four league matches, is not expected to return until after the international break at the earliest.
Furthermore, Abdul Samed Salis, a defensive midfielder, is also anticipated to miss the upcoming game. Salis suffered an injury during a Ligue 1 match with Lens over the weekend.
As the team prepares for this important encounter, the announcement of Chris Hughton as the head coach is anticipated this week, following discussions by the technical staff of the team.
