Asante Kotoko forward Georges Mfegue has drawn a striking comparison between his new teammate Yussif Nurudeen Mohammed and Liverpool’s defensive stalwart, Virgil Van Dijk.
Having spent two seasons with Asante Kotoko, Mfegue has developed a high regard for Yussif Nurudeen’s defensive prowess, especially during their encounters in the Ghana Premier League where Nurudeen was previously with RTU. Mfegue sees Nurudeen as a formidable defender, with attributes reminiscent of the renowned Dutch center-back, Virgil Van Dijk.
Mfegue expressed, “He plays like Van Dijk. He has everything. Good in the air and on the ground physically and technically [He’s is good].
The prospect of no longer facing Nurudeen as an opponent brings Mfegue contentment: “Sure [I’m happy he won’t be my opponent anymore]. I don’t like it when defenders push me and chase me with so many tackles so if he is in my team now, I am very happy about that.”
Yussif Nurudeen Mohammed recently sealed a three-year contract with Asante Kotoko during the ongoing transfer window. His move came following the expiration of his contract with RTU after the 2022/23 league season. Notably, Nurudeen played a vital role in RTU’s preservation of their premier league status in the previous season.
This highly-talented defender is anticipated to make his debut for Asante Kotoko in the first week of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, where they are set to face Hearts of Lions.
