DR Congo forward Yoane Wissa expressed determination to elevate his nation’s pride after securing a spot in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.
Wissa played a pivotal role, scoring a crucial penalty in DR Congo’s 3-1 victory against Guinea in the quarter-finals, setting the stage for a last-four clash with either hosts Cote d’Ivoire or Mali.
Named the man of the match, the Lorient striker stated, “I like taking on these responsibilities, like all my teammates – we are men and we want to carry our country’s flag to the highest level.” Wissa, who is ready to play in any position for his country, expressed pride in being Congolese.
With DR Congo eyeing their third AFCON title and the first since 1974, Wissa emphasized that they have no preference for their next opponent in the semifinals.
“Whether it’s Mali or Cote d’Ivoire, we have no preference. They are two great footballing nations, and we have to be ready for them,” he declared.
