Kicking off 2022 with much-anticipated fun and excitement is the Africa Cup of Nations 2022 —or the AFCON 2022. You can look forward to this tournament that starts from January to February because it will be Africa’s best going all out on the pitch. One of the most anticipated matches of the competition is the Ghana Vs Morocco match, or in other words, the Black Stars Vs the Atlas Lions game.

Besides watching the two teams try to place the ball at the back of each other’s net, fans also indulge in a bit of side betting. Yes, the best betting sites offer competitive odds for the AFCON 2022 games so that football fans can take home some money if their favourite team wins. In case you want to bet on this particular match, here’s what you need to know about these two great teams.

Match Predictions
I wish I could outrightly tell you which one of these two teams is the favourite and the underdog, but sadly I can’t. These two teams are evenly matched, and it has always been a tight game, even from their history.

However, one option that you can consider is the total number of goals. Both teams maintain a defensive game, and when the final whistle is blown, not many goals are usually scored. Here’s an analysis of the match with stats on their previous encounters and the latest news so that you can be the judge.

Fixture: Ghana Vs Morocco
The match will be played on 10th Jan 2022 at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon. Both teams are in Group C, so they’ll be battling it out for the top spot to proceed to the round of 16.

Previous Head to Head Matches
Previously, Ghana and Morocco have played against each other, whether in international friendly matches or previous AFCON tournaments. Below is head-to-head statistics of their last games:

8th Jun 2021: MOR 1 – 0 GHA
28th Jan 2008: GHA 2 – 0 MOR
8th Sept 2007: GHA 2 – 0 MOR
21st Jan 2002: MOR 0 – 0 GHA

From the statistics above, it is clear that the two teams seem to be at par and can be said to be equal competitors. However, what stands out is that the matches don’t end up having more than three goals.

Afcon Qualifiers
To qualify for the AFCON 2022 tournament, the two teams had to compete with other African teams and emerge top in their respective groups. Looking at these matches gives you a rough idea of how the two teams perform in their recent games.

Ghana was in Group C and competed with Sudan and South Africa to finish first with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Such an excellent performance shows that the team is in top form.

Morocco was in Group E with teams such as Mauritania and Burundi. The Atlas Lions showed an exemplary performance with 0 losses, 2 draws and 4 wins.

If you consider the AFCON qualifier matches, you’ll see that both Ghana and Morocco have performed well in their recent games, which further confirms that the two teams are evenly matched.

Latest News
Morocco’s coach, Vahid Halilodzic, recently announced his AFCON 2022 team competing in the tournament. Top highlights of his announcement include the debut of Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, a Barcelona forward, and that top players such as Hakim Ziyech, who plays for Chelsea, and Nousssair Mazraoui, an Ajax defender, will be absent.

During the recent Ghana Football Association press conference, Ghana’s coach, Milovan Rajevac, announced his 30-man squad. Some of the top players who’ll be part of the squad include Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey, youngster Felix Afena Gyan and brothers Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew.

Conclusion
Ghana’s Black Stars have won the AFCON championship in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982. Will 2022 be their 5th trophy to win? Well, we might not know now, but their first match against Morocco plays a significant role in it.
