Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu believes the responsibility of coaching the Black Stars may be exceeding Otto Addo’s capabilities.
His remarks come on the heels of the senior national team’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the latest qualifying match for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The defeat leaves Ghana languishing in third place in Group F with only two points, placing their chances of qualifying for the tournament in jeopardy.
In an interview with Accra-based Onua FM, Agyemang-Badu expressed regret for previously supporting Addo’s reappointment, stating, “I apologize because I advocated for the second coming of coach Otto Addo. If you go into my interviews, I gave him massive support, but I’m sorry. It seems the task is beyond him.”
Otto Addo was rehired in March of this year on a 34-month contract, with an option for an additional 24 months, taking over from Chris Hughton.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars are set to conclude their qualifying campaign against Niger and Angola next month.
For Ghana to qualify, they will need Sudan, currently sitting in second with seven points, to lose both of their remaining matches against Angola and Niger.
