The 31-year-old Egyptian forward Hussein El-Shahat who played a very key role in Al Ahly’s 12th CAF Champions League triumph has been sentenced to a year in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 100,000 Egyptian pounds.
Al Ahly thrashed Pyramids 3-0 in the final game of the 2022-23 season. During and after the game, players and staff of both teams were involved in a serious bust-up which led to El-Shahat slapping Moroccan player Chibi Mohamed of Pyramids. El Shahat claimed Chibi insulted his family leading to him to physically assault him.
The Moroccan filed a complaint in court against El-Shahat and the court has ruled in his favour.
The court’s ruling was as follows: “The Nasr City Misdemeanor Court sentenced Hussein El-Shahat to one year in prison with a suspended sentence, a fine of EGP 100,000, and a five-year ban from membership in any club.”
