Alan Shearer, the leading goal scorer in Premier League history, has unveiled his Team of the Season so far, surprising many by excluding West Ham United’s prolific striker Mohammed Kudus.
Despite Kudus’ stellar performances, earning him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month award for December, Shearer did not find him deserving of a spot in his best XI.
Kudus, at 23, has been a standout player for the Hammers since his summer move from Ajax, notching six Premier League goals in just 10 starts. A vital asset for David Moyes’ squad, he played a pivotal role in West Ham’s ascent to fifth place in the table.
Contrary to expectations, Shearer opted for players like Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Kudus’ teammate Jarrod Bowen, and Arsenal’s William Saliba, sidelining Kudus in his selection.
This decision has sparked discussions, questioning why Shearer overlooked Kudus, given the player’s exceptional form and impact on West Ham’s success this season.
Despite this, Kudus will have the chance to showcase his talents at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, having joined the Ghana camp in Kumasi.
