Algeria won the 2019 AFCON in a grand style but failed in the 2021 and 2023 AFCONs abysmally.
Soon after the 1-0 defeat to minnows Mauritania in the 2023 AFCON which subsequently ended their journey in Ivory Coast, the Algerian Football Federation parted ways with Djamel Belmadi after six years of marriage.
The vacant head coach role is set to be filled with the appointment of Vladimir Petkovic.
Vladimir Petkovic, 60, born in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, was in charge of Switzerland’s national team for 7 years (2014-2021).
The Bosnian manager will sign a 2-year contract until July 2026.
The official announcement will be made tomorrow (21 February) after the federal office meeting.
Vladimir Petkovic will be charged with bringing back the Fennec Foxes to their 1990 and 2019 days and also qualify Algeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
