Patrick M’boma is 2 times winner of the AFCON. He was part of the unbeatable Indomitable Lions team that conquered Africa in 2000 and 2002.
The 53-year-old former forward for Cameroon shared his experience on the just-ended 2023 AFCON.
“I have a problem, it’s that before it started (CAN 2023, editor’s note), we already wanted to make it the best in history. When we want to put something in people’s heads, we give ourselves the means.
“Now, the reality is that we have seen a lot of amazing matches, and a lot of goals too, very few 0-0s and we like that. It was a very good CAN, I came out of there with a feeling of wow. Afterwards, I would say that for the ticketing there were big hiccups, said M’boma.
Patrick M’boma praised the level of football during the 2023 AFCON and complained about ticketing issues.
“The management of the spectators was not good, in the stands we could no longer see the steps, it was more than the normal capacity. Some forced air could have caused a tragedy. Access to the stadium was very complicated and all that was not a success”, added M’boma.
“Afterwards what interests us is the pitch, and the 52 matches, they gave us a lot of joy. From memory, it was certainly one of the most beautiful of this century, but I always keep in mind that the 2000 final is certainly the most beautiful of this century too,” concluded M’boma.
CAN 2000 was co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria and it remains one of the best AFCONs ever.
