Algeria was eliminated in the 2023 AFCON by losing 1-0 to Mauritania on Tuesday night. It was very shocking and embarrassing to Algerian football fans as expectations for the Fennec Foxes were high.

Djamel Belmadi who has been in charge of the Algerian national team resigned on Wednesday morning after 6 years of roller coaster moments for the Fennec Foxes.

Algerian football authorities quickly need to replace Djamel Belmadi as the AFCON will be over on the 11th of February and after that, there will be 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Algeria has immediately shown interest in Herve Renard, two-time winner of the AFCON with Zambia and Ivory Coast.

The French tactician knows how to win on the continent as history shows. Herve Renard has thanked Algeria for registering their interest in him.

“I thank the Algerians for their interest in me, but my focus is with the French women’s national team until August 2024″, revealed Herve Renard.

The 55-year-old former Moroccan and Saudi Arabia coach has been with the French women’s national team since 2023 and his contract will expire in August 2024.

Many Ghanaian journalists have linked him to the vacant Ghana head coach position as Chris Houghton was sacked by the GFA for his abysmal performance in the AFCON 2023.
