General Manager of the Black Stars, Ameenu Shardow, has strongly defended head coach Otto Addo, expressing unwavering belief in his capabilities despite public backlash over recent performances.
Ghana’s national team recently reignited their 2026 World Cup qualifying hopes with dominant victories over Chad and Madagascar, winning 5-0 and 3-0 respectively. The results brought an end to a troubling six-match winless streak, which included a disappointing exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In the wake of those struggles, Otto Addo faced mounting pressure, with sections of the public and media calling for his dismissal. However, the Ghana Football Association chose to back their man, opting instead to strengthen the technical team around him.
Shardow, speaking on Asempa FM, said he had no doubts about Addo’s suitability for the role.
“I’m absolutely convinced Otto is the right person. He got a lot of things wrong. He is the first to admit that,” Shardow said.
“If you put a camera before him, he will willingly tell you he got a lot of things wrong.”
Despite acknowledging the coach’s past mistakes, Shardow praised Addo’s dedication and hunger to improve.
“But the way he coaches, the way he applies himself, the way he’s always willing to learn — he never sleeps. Hard worker. You could tell clearly that this is somebody who is destined for the top,” he added.
Ghana now sits at the top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers, three points ahead of Comoros, with four matches remaining. The strong position has restored hope among fans that the Black Stars can seal qualification for the global tournament under Otto Addo’s leadership.
