Medeama SC announced the sacking of goalkeeper Frank Boateng from the club on Tuesday following his horrible goalkeeping against Hearts of Oak last Sunday during the FA Cup semifinals that saw the Yellow and Mauves defeated 3-0 by the Phobians.
Frank Boateng signed a three year deal with Medeama in October 2020 but his poor performance in Cape Coast was the latest demonstration of his unreliability prompting the club to immediately terminate his contract by mutual consent.
“We have mutually parted ways with goalkeeper Frank Boateng. The club would like to thank Frank for his services and wish him well.”
I have personally seen Frank play for teams like Techiman City and Ashantigold and I know that he has worked hard over the years to be at the highest level of Ghana football that he so much desired but to be honest , he failed to convince everyone that the number one goalkeeping role at a top club like Medeama should be vested in him.
When he arrived at the club, Eric Ofori Antwi was the first choice but plenty first team opportunities came to him but he messed up. I am not saying players should not make mistakes but in the case of Boateng, he was never improving.
“I am extremely delighted to be here and I look forward to being part of this club’s fantastic brand. I am ambitious and its important I joined a club that drives that ambition and I look forward to contributing immensely to the Medeama project. This was an opportunity I couldn’t let it pass and its gratifying to be part of this fantastic club.” Boateng told the Medeama media team upon signing for them.
What saddens me the most about his sacking is the question of how many top clubs in the country will go in for a goalkeeper who has been embarrassingly sacked due to poor performances just ten months into a three year deal?
Medeama lost their first team coach Boadu to Hearts of Oak, they failed to win the league, they failed to reach the FA Cup final and so they demonstrated their anger and their ambition to bounce back stronger next season by firing Frank Boateng who is the creator of his own problem.
That said I wish he finds another club but I do not think top sides such as Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko or the likes of Great Olympics , Karela United will ask for his signature even as a free agent. But is that happens it will present a golden opportunity to him to make a redemption.
