Veteran forward Andre Ayew has dismissed suggestions that he is nearing retirement, insisting he still feels physically and mentally ready to continue playing at the highest level.
The former Ghana national football team captain, now 36, recently returned to club football after signing for Dutch side NAC Breda following his departure from French outfit Le Havre at the end of last season. Ayew joined the club as a free agent on a short-term deal that runs until the close of the campaign.
Although he has not featured for Ghana since the Africa Cup of Nations, Ayew remains optimistic about his future in the game. Speaking in an interview with ESPN, the most-capped player in Black Stars history said retirement is not currently on his mind.
“I never thought about it because my body feels good,” Ayew explained. “I take life day by day and prepare myself to be better on and off the pitch. When the time comes, your body will tell you.”
Since arriving in the Netherlands, the experienced forward has made six league appearances for NAC Breda, starting once as he gradually rebuilds match fitness and rhythm.
