Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed strong confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to challenge and defeat the world’s biggest football nations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in an interview with FIFA, the Ghana international said neither he nor his teammates would be intimidated by the magnitude of the tournament, insisting the squad is determined to prove Ghana belongs among football’s elite.

“It will just feel normal. I don’t think I’ll feel anything. I think if anything, I’ll just want to win and prove that we can compete with the top nations,” he said.

Semenyo also highlighted his desire to showcase Ghana’s quality on the biggest stage, especially when facing players he knows personally from club football.

“I don’t think it changes anything for me, but I know that playing against my friends, I want to prove my point. I want to show that we are a top nation, we can play together, and we can beat all the top teams,” Semenyo added.

The Black Stars will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup when the 2026 edition kicks off across United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ghana, four-time African champions, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before taking on England at the Boston Stadium on June 23. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field on June 27.

After disappointing group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, Ghana will be hoping to make a stronger impact this time and secure a place in the knockout rounds.
