Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has identified Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian star leaves Anfield.
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate with other clubs from January. Despite his impressive performances this season, Liverpool has yet to offer him a new deal.
Addressing speculation about his future, Salah said earlier this season: “I haven’t received any proposal. We’re almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club… I’m probably more out than in.”
With Salah’s future uncertain, Owen believes Semenyo could fill the void if Liverpool’s talisman departs. The Ghanaian forward has been in fine form, scoring five Premier League goals this season. His notable contributions include a goal in Bournemouth’s commanding 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford and another against reigning champions Manchester City.
“I don’t think Mo Salah will leave this season, but in the event he leaves, I would be surprised if Liverpool don’t consider Semenyo as a replacement,” Owen remarked.
Semenyo’s performances have turned heads in the Premier League, and Owen’s endorsement underscores the growing recognition of his talent.
