Antoine Semenyo scores in Guardiola’s final Manchester City match

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo capped off the best season of his career by finding the net in Pep Guardiola’s final game as Manchester City manager, although Aston Villa fought back to secure a 2-1 victory on the last day of the Premier League season.

The Black Stars attacker handed City an early advantage when he reacted quickest to a flicked-on corner, volleying home from close range to delight the Etihad faithful in what proved to be a historic occasion.

The goal was Semenyo’s 21st in all competitions this season and his 11th since joining Manchester City from Bournemouth in January, highlighting his impressive impact under Guardiola.

The 26-year-old has often spoken of his admiration for the legendary Spanish coach, previously revealing that the opportunity to work under Guardiola played a major role in his decision to move to the Etihad Stadium.

However, the farewell celebrations were cut short as Aston Villa staged a second-half comeback. Ollie Watkins levelled the scores shortly after the break before grabbing the winner on the hour mark to hand the visitors all three points.

Despite the disappointing result, Semenyo’s goal ensured he remained one of the standout figures on an emotional afternoon, becoming the final player to score for Manchester City during Guardiola’s hugely successful reign.

Having completed a remarkable club campaign, the Ghana international will now shift his focus to the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
