Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta addresses Thomas Partey’s future amid January transfer speculation

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has weighed in on the speculation surrounding Thomas Partey’s future, shedding light on the Ghanaian midfielder’s contract status and ongoing importance to the team.

Partey, who signed with Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in a high-profile transfer, remains under contract with the Gunners until June 2025. Despite his current deal, reports have surfaced linking the Black Stars midfielder with a potential departure during the January transfer window.

Speaking at a press conference, Arteta dismissed the urgency of the rumours, stating that the club will address Partey’s contract situation at the appropriate time. “We will have the right time to discuss about the situation,” Arteta said. “He is showing consistency at the highest level, again because his availability and the way that he feels physically is allowing him to do that, and I am very pleased with that.”

Partey has been instrumental for Arsenal this season, excelling in various roles across midfield. In the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, the 31-year-old has already netted two goals in 12 appearances, underscoring his versatility and tactical importance to the squad.

As Arsenal prepares to face West Ham United on Saturday, Partey is expected to feature prominently in Arteta’s plans, with the manager continuing to rely on his experience and form to drive the team’s success.
